National
Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority is a fairly young organization
chartered March 11, 1986 and founded October 24, 1986
on the campus of California State University, Sacramento.
It was founded by 27 women who were seeking to make
university life less lonesome and more supportive. Our
Founders realized that much of the difficulty in forming
a Sorority came from the students’ unfamiliarity
with the Greek System. Most people of Latin, African,
Asian, and Native American descent had not been a part
of the University institution for very long and many
still did not comfortably fit in with the University
atmosphere.
Xi Chapter
A lack of contentment found on existing sororities at
the UCR campus led a group of women in search of one
of their own. After much research one was found to meet
all needs. Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority encompassed a
remarkably sisterhood. It encircled many aspects of
university life such as academic, community, and social
aspects. As prospective members, this group of women
became known as Ladies of Cultural pride. Throughout
the summer of 2000, the ladies met on a weekly basis
and participated in many events with local LSG chapters.
On November 18, 2000, Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority, Inc.
was founded on the UCR campus by seventeen women. Now,
the Sisters of Xi Chapter continually work hard to uphold
the visions that Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority was founded
upon. Xi Chapter continues the tradition that was passed
on to us by our Chapter's Founding Mothers.
