Lambda
Sigma Gamma Sorority, Inc.
LSG is a Multicultural Sorority and as such encourages
diversity in culture, personal beliefs, and majors.
It is through the understanding of other cultures, interests,
and lifestyles that LSG is strong and united. We are
a network of women in higher education seeking to make
life less lonesome and more supportive for all women.
Unity within our sorority is enhanced by weekend retreats,
activities, community service and meetings within each
individual chapter, as well as throughout the state
of California. Lambda Sigma Gamma members have found
that the sorority is a place to find lasting friendships,
community involvement, academic support, and the development
of leadership skills. The sisterhood exists today
because of the vision and ideals of our Founders. Our
future depends on how we understand and invest in the
idea that women, bound together in sisterhood, provide
the strength and support which fosters achievement.

Multiculturalism
Lambda Sigma Gamma is a Multicultural Sorority. As Sisters,
we believe that Multicultural is not just a word, but
rather a deep rooted feeling which lies in our hearts.
As individuals, we have come together from different
parts of the world. We are from different creeds, ethnic
groups, and socio-economic backgrounds. We accept women
with different interests, majors and religious beliefs.
Our physical talents and mental abilities vary, and
we may have different sexual preferences. It is within
these differences that we choose to unite our lives
and share our dreams, in hopes of educating one another
and bettering ourselves. We continuously strive to meet
our goal of bringing together women from diverse worlds
under the spirit of Multiculturalism.
Sisterhood
Lambda Sigma Gamma is a support group and a family.
It is a multicultural sorority, which encourages women
to take part of our sisterhood. We believe that no two
people are the same. We all have different dreams, needs,
and goals. Our diversity impulses our growth. It gives
us the energy to continue onward by building upon a
strong foundation and working together with mutual trust
and respect that we can create a world of brighter promise.
The diversity and creativity of our members have helped
us become leaders. We value the diversity of our members,
their talents and perspectives, which are the foundation
of our success.
Academics
One of the Primary goals
of Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority is to assist its members
to do well academically. Lambda Sigma Gamma encourages
academic excellence from each of our members, and rewards
those Sisters who excel academically with Lambda Sigma
Gamma Sorority Awards both on a National and Chapter
level.
Awards
At the end of each quarter the Commissioner of Scholarship
recognizes Sisters who have excelled academically as
well as the Sister who improved the most that quarter.
Sisters receive an award in recognition of their hard
work. At the end of the year the Commissioner of Scholarship
recognizes the Sister with the highest GPA at our annual
banquet. On a National level, the Director of Scholarship
recognizes Sisters with Honors (3.0 GPA and above) and
High Honors (3.5 GPA and above) awards. At the end of
each term, the Director of Scholarship awards the Chapters
with the highest Quarter / Semester GPA as well as cumulative
GPA.
Community Service
On a local level, Lambda Sigma Gamma members participate
in community service throughout the year at school and
community events as organized by the Commissioner of
Community Service. On a National level, Lambda Sigma
Gamma Chapters participate in the Head
Start Program. Lambda Sigma Gamma designated the
Head Start Program as its national philanthropy on April
25, 1993. The Head Start Program’s mission is
to improve the lives of low-income children by providing
quality comprehensive child development services that
are family focused, including education, health, nutrition,
and mental health. Their mission is accomplished by
involving parents in the total operation and administration
of the program and supporting the growth of children,
families, and staff through the encouragement, nurturing,
education, and empowerment. Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority
at UCR volunteers with the Head Start Program at an
elementary school near the UCR campus. Sisters volunteer
a few hours a week throughout the year. Special functions
are held for the children during the holidays. At the
end of the year, a gift and a card is given to each
child to celebrate the end of their pre-school years
and their new beginning in kindergarten.
Social
Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority believes that a balanced
life is a critical element of a successful student.
A social atmosphere where students can relieve the stress
accumulated throughout the week is encouraged. Our social
atmosphere consists of socials with other organizations,
both off and on the UCR campus. |
